Every winter, The Butchart Gardens transforms into one of the most magical holiday destinations in Canada with its beloved “Magic of Christmas” event. Running from early December through early January, this annual celebration turns the already stunning gardens into a glowing winter wonderland filled with festive lights, music, and family-friendly attractions.
A Dazzling Christmas Light Display
At the heart of the experience is the breathtaking Christmas light display. As the flowers rest for the winter, the gardens come alive with hundreds of thousands of twinkling lights, illuminating pathways, trees, and landscapes in vibrant colour. One of the most iconic features is the “Twelve Days of Christmas” display, where visitors stroll through themed scenes inspired by the classic holiday song. From “three French hens” to “eight maids a-milking,” each display is carefully designed and tucked throughout the gardens, encouraging guests to explore every corner.
The scale of the installation is impressive—months of preparation go into transforming the gardens, with teams installing lights, decorations, and festive elements across the property. The result is an immersive experience where glowing forests, illuminated pathways, and sparkling displays create a truly enchanting atmosphere.
Christmas Tickets & Planning
We strongly recommend booking a timed entrance ticket in advance of your visit to guarantee your admission. You are welcome to arrive without a timed entrance ticket, and if they have capacity at the time of your arrival, it will be our pleasure to admit you.
Please note that on busy evenings, when they reach capacity, those without timed entrance tickets (or rebooking tickets) will be asked to return when we have availability.

Online tickets are valid for entry any time during open hours, except during our Christmas Season, when a Timed Entrance Ticket is required
